Parental beliefs about returns to child health investments

Childhood obesity has adverse health and productivity consequences it poses negative externalities to services. To shed light on the role of parents, we elicit parental beliefs about returns persistence a healthy diet exercise routine in childhood. Parents believe both types investments improve child adult outcomes. Consistent with model taste formation, parents that childhood behaviors persist into adulthood. We show perceived are predictive outcomes, less educated view be lower. Our descriptive evidence suggests contribute socioeconomic inequality outcomes intergenerational transmission obesity.
